Aïda Colmenero Dïaz
Kolochi Baw is the result of a research process conducted by Aïda Colmenero Dïaz in 2021 during her time as a Pina Bausch Fellow. The piece is a vivid reflection on the concept of time, vibration and sacrifice. It is also about the construction of mankind's great architectural achievements. The work was inspired by the story of the construction of the Djenné Mosque in Mali, where the piece was created. The mosque is the largest brick building in the Sudanese-Sahelian architectural style and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. In the Bambara language, Kolochi Baw means "the guardians". They are the guardians of time, vibration and sacrifice. The guardians of the ancestors of modernity. The guardians of the new era.
For this work, choreographer and director Aïda Colmenero Dïaz has teamed up with bioarchitect and artist Angel Fulla, founder and director of the bioarchitecture and community project african angara (www.africanangara.com). Since the conception of the work, he has been involved in the design of scenographies and also leads mediation activities. www.aidacolmenerodiaz.com
